How to Review Your Life by Doing a Life Audit

How happy are you with your life right now?

  • Are you on the right path?

  • Are your days productive?

  • What about balance- is there enough in your life?

Performing a life audit can help you get crystal clear on those questions and so much more.

A life audit is a personal reflection exercise that helps you check-in on yourself, your progress with your goals, and your general satisfaction with life.

Here are 5 life audit activities that will help you see how you are spending your time, show you where you’re falling behind, and highlight what’s going great in your life right now.

1. Make an Activity Log

First, make a list of everything that you do on a typical day.

Then, on a separate sheet of paper, make 4 columns: Column A = Keep Doing Column B = Increase Column C = Reduce Column D = Eliminate

Finally, go over the list you made in the first step and put each activity in the appropriate column.

Making the list of your typical daily actions will show you exactly where your time goes and categorizing them into columns will help you to increase your productivity.

2. Ask Reflective Questions

This exercise is one of the most common activities out there and that’s because it works.

Getting honest with yourself and putting some deep thought into this can get you some serious clarity on the quality of your life. It can also shed some light on your relationship with yourself and on your personal outlook on life.

Some questions include:

  • Do I like the person I’ve become?

  • Am I self-sufficient: do I have control over my life?

  • Am I fulfilling my greatest potential by utilizing my abilities and applying myself both physically and mentally?

  • Do I believe that life is good? Why or why not?

  • Is there passion in my life?

Inside you'll find 9 questions to help you reflect on the person you've become, the life you've made for yourself and the path you're on.

You'll also get a quick activity to help you decide what changes you can make to level up your productivity and improve your life.

3. Use the Wheel of Life

This is a common life-coaching tool that helps you rate your level of satisfaction in the 8 main areas of your life: Personal Growth, Relationships, Finances, Career, Fun & Recreation, Health, Spirituality, & Physical Environment.

This exercise will show you any gaps that you have in your life and help you evaluate your work-life balance.

4. Identify Your Energy Drainers and Your Energizers

Make a list of all the people and things you commonly interact with. Then, on a separate sheet of paper, make 2 columns:

  • Column A = Energy Drainers

  • Column B = Energizers

Then, go over the list you made in the first step.

Put the people and things that have a negative impact on your mood in the Energy Drainers column and

Put the people and things that positively affect you or contribute to your goals in the Energizers column.

And finally, try to decrease your exposure to the energy drainers and increase your interactions with the energizers.

5. Get Your Goals on Paper

You may already have a vague idea of what your long & short term goals are- but that fuzzy image in your head isn’t going to cut it here.

Get your goals down on paper, then go down the list and ask yourself where you are in relation to each goal.

After this, make a list of what you need to start, stop, and continue doing in order to achieve each goal.

Side note: the Life Planner is the perfect tool for this step.

It helps you to:

  • Get clear on what you want

  • Turn those desires into clear, achievable and actionable steps and

  • Organize your days, weeks and months so that you can achieve those goals and transform your dreams into a reality.

In addition to that, it also has the Wheel of Life activity and 20 reflection life audit questions to help you review your life before you start making plans for the future.
